Hey all, Raman 'ere. Had an idea for another digo item. I hope it hasn't been mentioned before though.

I just thought, if Felorin and all can personalize each character (portraits, digo avs etc.) then I wondered, is it possible to create your very own avatar? If a dragon, phoenix, gryffon, or wings can be assigned to someone, why can't something else? The portraits put this idea running in my head-everyone is different when they buy a portrait space. I'm sure it would be better to see more avatars then just felines, canines, mustelines, equines, rodents, phoenixes, dragons, gryffons and winged furres. It gets really tiring, and seeing an eagle isn't a great sight any more. However, there are still some problems here. I expect more human avatars than furre avatars would pop up (I'm a human myself on furcadia), and you can't deny someone an avatar after they paid the money and made the patch. Then last, I expect many badly drawn or abusive/nude avatars running around, which would kill Furcadia's atmosphere. But I have a solution for all these things, although it could prove troublesome. The answer? Reviews. Before paying money, a person could send the patch to someone who'd review it and if it was acceptable, they could buy it. So, yeah. I think, if made a digo, this would go great with portrait spaces. All of you, tell me what you think.  smile.gif

The lag and download time would be horrid.

Hmm, indeed it would. But I was thinking, the file would stay on your computer instead. I'm not a computer wiz, so you're probably right. But why isn't it horrid to download with dragons? Oh well. I'm just a kid anyhow. Don't know much.

Cheers,
The Idiot.

Dragons are just twenty frames downloaded once.

If each player has his or her own avatar each avatar would need to be downloaded.

Also, user avatars could be quite, quite annoying.  What if I make my avatar HUGE, and I mean HUGE.  Boom, I can hide half the population of a map at once.  BWahahaha!.  What if I make my avatar tiny so it's almost invisible, or make it look like a default object.  Each avatar has twenty frames.  What if I log on into the middle of AI and there are five people there with custom avatars?  Even if none of them have created extra specially huge avatars, dragons are 120kb, pheonixi are 136kb, and gryphon-unique-spellings are 155kb.  The average 'extra avatar' then, is 137kb.  Times five, 685kb, is about a six minute download for me, until which what?  Do I not see them?  What happens when yet another custom avatar walks onto my screen?  I'll never be able to move.
DEP also has to review each picture, not just each avatar, but each frame of each avatar, for inappropriate details.  Because of the smaller scale, they have to look much closer, and approving a normal avatar will probably take much, MUCH longer than a portrait to check.  The current portrait price, ten dollars, is almost completely for this content review.  That's for one image.  For 20 of them, that should be 200 dollars for a custom avatar.

So now we have issues of unreasonable price, huge downloads which are NOT PROMPTED BY USER ACTION, abuse possiblities like 'invisibility' and blocking.  There's no comparison to either portraits, which are tiny, and only need to be downloaded when you click on someone, or special avs like dragons, which are only downloaded once at installation time, not as you're trying to walk across AI and avoid all the dream portals.
