I always thought it would be cool if - like with portrait spaces - you could by your own "avatar space" and be able to customize your walkabout.  Like the portrait space, you would only buy the ability to upload your avatar, keeping in mind that all positions for it would have to be sent in.  I'm guessing it would cost a lot more than a measly 10 dollars to buy.  I suppose a different system would have to be used to make it visible to everyone, otherwise in a matter of days we'd have a huge download issue.  With all the new player patches.  I'm not a programmer or anything so I don't know what it would take to do this.  But if anyone has any ideas, I think it'd be a great digo item to have in the future.

Hmm...having noticed the similarities between this discussion and all the other requests for new avatars, I suppose this is gonna get bashed pretty heavily.  Probably not a smart thing to suggest either, given that if we could make more avatars without increasing the download size many times it'd be done already.  Eh....oh well.  Wishful thinking I guess.

Do people not bother taking even the tiniest glance at the list of topics, but just hit the "New Topic" button?  Maybe if they did, there wouldn't be hundreds of topics for avatars.

Well hang on guys.. I really like the 'idea' of this one.

This is much different than just.. differen't avatars for everyone. This is a different avatar for those that pay.. Unfortunately... the way the avatars right now are done.. that wouldn't be feasible. It takes a heck of a lot for EACH avatar they already have. You increase the download size.. wich each character and all what.. 16 poses for them?

I think that if the avatars are done differently in the future, this COULD be a great thing. But it would have to be done with standard items.. so that when your in a crowded area.. you aren't downloading 50 sets of positions for all 50 people around you.. when you see them. I bet my computer would lock up until it finished trying to display all of them in the same moment!

If you had a set number of wearable items... then it would only acess those items and display them. But they would already be in your system.. rather than downloading only when seen.. like portraits.

Avatars are much more visible than customized portraits. You only download them.. if they have one.. and when you click on them.  Not as much of a hassle. But the idea... In my opinion.. is a great one! I have my ahem.. 'unique' look in real life.. why shouldn't my furries? smile.gif  Nice idea Anosuke!

This thing has been suggested many, many times. Not really worth it, since will place a lot of load on dialup users. I won't mention the server load, because the dreams (with their patches) weight much more than the custom avatars would.
People suggested it in my game too, and told them: "no."

Maybe if you can pass a Ping-Test, you could have downloading of Custom Avatars enabled. If you couldn't, then it would be disabled.

Some internet connections (like College ones) have monthly bandwidth limits.

Custom avatars aren't reasonably comparable to custom portraits because downloading portraits is optional.  If you don't want to download custom portraits then you just don't click on the furre.  You can't control furres coming onto and going off of your screen.  Sending those avatars to high amounts of players all at once could be streneous on the server and a single player receiving the avatars for all the furres on screen would be too streneous for the player's connection.

What if the person's avatar appeared normal to everyone, but if you clicked on them then the avatar would change to their custom one?  But only while clicked on them would you, and you alone, see it.  Just a thought.

It'd have to be set for a certain time.  Personally it'd be hard to set it to change and then change back..  It's possible but in the end probably easier to just make your own avatar in a dream.  Probably would be best to have a cache so it would download it when a person clicked and then save it to the cache so it wouldn't have to download it again unless you changed it (which would cost a lot)

One day when we're all running the brand new Pentium 45's with Taco Bell Windows 2060 (Taco bell made a hostile takeover of microsoft in 2020) on virtual reality connections that run faster then our brains we'll be able to give everyone their own avatars.

Ok probably sooner then that.  Unfortunately it's just not very realistic on server load times.  It would have to download, not just one shape, but 12 shapes.  One for each position and all.  It's not a matter of the lag from having each avatar walk around.  That would be quite insignificant in all likelihood.  It's the download times that hurt.

*coughs*  20, not 12.  There's three each for each walking direction.
