I was just thinking up ways to help aspiring furres get the species they desire. I've encountered many who want to become a species and have had to put it in their description instead of showing it on screen. Here are my suggestions:

1. While rabbits were a cool addition, there are many more species which could improve the game. The first being the addition of a vulpine race. Foxes do have different appearences than dogs and , by furry standards, look far different.

2. Bears would also make a cool addition. Big, burly ursines walking about would be fantastic!

3. I've encountered many individuals lately that have desired a reptilian character who is NOT a dragon. They seem to find it difficult to describe a reptile while using another body.

4. The option of your char being a 'Taur should be available. My char's mate is supposed to be a centaur but she has constant problems getting furres to believe thus. I know that some dreams can transform you into one but one should be able to have a char with that feature available and FREE. That is one problem. Many people aren't willing to pay to make their characters look cool and many can't even afford it.

That's all, I think.

I think Vulpine should be very low on the to-do list...mostly because it's quite do-able to be a fox, while using the canine avatar.  and at this resolution, I would bet my arm, the difference between the two would be slight.  slightly sharper muzzle? I can't think of too many differences.

I should doubt taur's as well.  I'm sure they're great as player patches, but i've noticed players hold official avatars in a different standard.  which means the avatar has to "work" in furcadia.  it's got to sit in chairs without looking funny, you've got to minimize things like the avatar being clipped in half when standing next to a wall.  other players shouldn't be able to walk through the ass end of an avatar.

a taur's body length is a real problem. since if you want realistic dimensions, it won't fit nicely into one tile.  It's just such a problematic avatar to do, for such a specialized audience.  If it were up to me, I wouldn't place my focus on such things...but ya never know :)

Seen the cataur patch? VERY cool. I don't know who to credit with it though.

I think Hoshi made the cat-taurs.

Anyway, new species additions have had a number of threads on this forum, so I'll just rephrase what has been said on every single one:  A new species takes a ton of work to make them match the other species already there, and, regardless of which species is added, there will be a lot of people who will be bitter that "their" species hasn't been added yet.  One new species means three new sets of graphics (winged characters need their own sets), another set of portraits, and a fair bit more to download.

That being said, I do like the ideas you've put out here, and if you ever make a patch for them, I'd love to see it.

Why not make it so that some objects can use -two- grid squares?  Or would that be two complicated to code?  I'd imagine that would help with things like the dragons and phoenixes (when laying down), some larger objects such as tables and beds, etc.

Just a thought.  (2c)

Ooh... I'm gonna have to add my two cents and three cheers for a bear (ursine) avatar.  I won't go into all the reasons why that would be wonderful here 'cause I think I already did that in another thread somewhere long ago.  However, my personal preference is that the avatars be more furry than burly -- like a teddy bear, like Fozzie Bear.  Lots of thick fur, musculature shouldn't be very well defined at all, but hinted at.  And no exposed midriff, but that's maybe a rant for another thread. ;)

Teddy bears? No. Just no.
I'm almost afraid of what would happen if another species was added. Ursines seem like the most logical next step (vulpines would look exactly the same as canines except for tail markings, and deers, cows, etc could be played as a equine. Improvise a little), but I'm afraid they'll end up strange. Like an edited cat or something.

Hey, What about small birds and small lizards.  know it seems weird but id like to see a usable cold blooded avatar or a small bird avatar.

Bears are ok but they would be the size of horses. sub species of animals would be a waste.

Reptiles and amphibians should be the next type of avatars to come out.

Um, peoples, your ideas are GREAT and all... but they just added a new avatar! You think they're going to jump up and add another one? Pfft, it'll probably be like, a year or so (At least like, 2) before a new specie comes out. However when they do make the new specie, it would be one that doesn't resemble any of the avatars already existing (Like someone said, be a vulpine with the canine, deer/cow/etc with an equine, yeesh, they're barely different, it's not -that- hard to use your imagination).

I just had an idea.  It might be an idea someone else has thought of, but what the hey.

If we want these species so much, why not make them ourselves (avatars and portraits) and submit them to DEP for review/use?  Perhaps if -we- did all the work. . .

Of course, for things like birds we'd probably have to make the arms little wings so that it wouldn't infringe on the wings people can purchase, if not disregard wings completely.  Or perhaps submit other paid-for species as well (gryphons? I've seen those before, and what about unipegs--unicorn/pegasai, big and beautiful like our current phoenixes?).

I would not mind seeing reptiles and (flightless) birds.  That would open up a whole bunch of more ideas.  Bears would be neat as well.

For birds, I would say they were normally folded, and unfurled (different graphic) with wings.

with different unfirled wing patterns for classic and tris.

By cycling through, you could flap :)

I don't think that submitting your species ideas would be effective.

Species selections are very thoughful processes that DEP goes through.  Even the first five.  I'm not sure what the URL is, but there is a FAQ on Talzhemir's website that goes into further detail.

What I mean to say is: When DEP is ready to add a new species, a new species will be added. =P

One word: Bovine.

Actually, I have more.. Bovines would be neat.. they could look like minotaurs, but I doubt many people would want that as their avatar :p

I like Valkaria's deer idea, antlers and all would be neat :)

Anyways, I know there a slim chance of any of our new avatar ideas being put into Furcadia but its fun to know what everyone else wants to see :)

BOVINE?  That would be so funny!

Yes, even if these ideas never get implemented, it's cool to see what everyone wants.  :)

If there were reptillian furres running around that would kind of ruin the continuity of the game. I mean, why would it be called FURcadia if there are lizards about? I think the same thing goes for birds. Let's keep using animals with fur. :csmile:
