At first this may sound like a lame suggestion, but...
A goat-like creature without the beard, but with small horns and those cute ears. The feet would have shoes on so you wouldn't be able to tell if the creature had hooves or feet. Clothing would be Furcadian style... It could pass for three animals really, as long as imagination is implied. The markings would be arranged in blotches, so the creature could also pass as a cow. I heard of the new bat wings coming up, Perhaps the goat-avatar would have a dragon-like tail with bat-wings. It would pass for a cheaper dragon. Or just a wingless dragon with a little tail. The thing with Furcadia is, It's alot of imagination. Using your imagination is fun! My character is a dragon... but he is a feline avater, with Tri-wings (Soon Bat-wings ^_^), and a portrait showing his cute face and the cute little antennae he has. Another suggestion we can implement is, the -option- for different genders in avatars. It would not be in use in the default download, all the avatars would be a single gender, so the download wouldn't be as big. But in other dreams, people would probably want different gender avatars. It'd also triple the possibility of the races that the dream can have, in relation to avatars... except then all avatars and portraits would all probably be a single gender. |

Won't happen anytime soon. Don't really feel like typing out this huge explanation as to why more specices and gender specfic avatars aren't needed, but I'm sure someone will come along soon enough to do so.

You've obviously put a lot of thought into this, unfortunately new species suggestions fall on deaf ears. The list of different species to be added in future updates was put together a long time ago and DEP is not willing to change it. Squirrels will be next, then cows. I don't think goats that pass as cows would be considered - equines pass as cows, probably more so than a goat would.

Your opinion is, in this isolated instance, widely shared.

I like the portraits they're using for the squirrel, I'm glad they decided to use the original style for it rather than style used for the lapines.

You people are odd. The list does change. It's not a bible. I don't know where you get your ideas.
I like the idea of goats, or hooved creatures of some type. Something more general could pass as a goat as well as alot of other species. The gender idea has been brought up quite a few times, though, and I don't think special add ons (such as wings) will have any extras (like a spiked tail) to make one avatar look like another. |

Well, okay, it changes slightly. My point was that suggestions made here aren't influencial. Talz says the data is collected from FurryMUCK (even though Felorin admits that most Furcadia users are not 'furries' and would not therefore have anything to do with FurryMUCK).

According to the last run species scan on FurryMUCK, dating January of this year, there's about:
* 80 squirrels of different variety (toon, ground, flying, etc). * 13 cows * 96 bears * 8 goats Intresting, eh? IF you include "panda" as a type of bear, then the number of bears jumps to 127. This post has been edited by Inhandra: May 31 2000, 11:00 AM |

I imagine skunks are fairly popular there, though.

I just counted. There's almost 200 skunks. I stopped counting after 170, but I was near the end of the list.
So, if they are/were in fact going off of FurryMUCK data, it would be logical that the next step would be to produce bears. But as we know, that isn't happening. This post has been edited by Inhandra: May 31 2000, 11:00 AM |

On Talz's personal FAQ, she says the list of soon-to-be avatars, and I recall reading somewhere on these boards that someone said bears won't be made (in the foreseeable future).
The main point was to show that squirrels are used often while goats and cows are not. Turns out skunks and bears are popular on FurryMUCK. This post has been edited by Inhandra: May 31 2000, 11:00 AM |

Like I said, the list's not a bible. But yeah, squirrels are used alot more than goats. Deer have a bit of a following, though.

From looking back on the boards...
On April 27 2004, Talz quoted her FAQ list to someone asking about adding a new species. Two days later she said: QUOTE Checking recently, cows have become more popular than squirrels/skunks, but bears, despite the requests, haven't come up in the ranks. The rest still matches what we've got planned. I can appreciate that things can change in a matter of months, but that's where I've been getting my ideas from. |

Perhaps a cow could pass as a goat...
Same general body shape... As long as they don't add udders. |
