Through a friend, I have discovered several other Furc-like games... though none of them are so advanced. However, on these games, you can upload your own avatar. I think that we should be able to create and upload our own avvies, and submit them for acception like we do portriats. Ones that are too close to the buyable digos, of course, won't be allowed... perhaps this effect can only be bought by sponsors, or something? At any rate. I thought it would be a good idea. =>

According to the Suggested Avatars List, this has been suggested at least eight times before this.  It's a good idea, and probably planned for the future.

Ah, perhaps I should dig up old threads then before suggesting. <.<

Every time you click a furre, you download a personal portrait.

The only way I can see the personal avatar thing working (other than loading a new avatar every time a person with a personal avatar walks on screen, which would lag you up, likely, if you had a 56K). Would be displaying a default avatar untill you click on them and load their custom.

I honestly think it's impractical, considering the size of a single avatar's file.

Sybelle A-hum... All Player.fsh related topics are listed in the VERY FIRST POST in this Forum...  It's a sticky post.  I can't believe that you would even miss it...  Unless you were ... uh ... careless?

It happens.
I, personally, wouldn't mind downloadable avatars only working if you clicked on someone.  Heck, it might be nice to be able to force someone's custom avatar to go back to the default one on your screen, seeing as there are alot of different views on good art (and I'm just plain not a fan of some of them).

But, those aren't anything LIKE Furcadia in the slightest.  The fact that they are web-based should tell you this.  You're loading graphics on a screen for those "avatar poses."  Just one graphic, whenever someone feels like changing their avatar position.

On Furc, one avatar has way more than just one or even two sprites, which must be tripled for each wing type (and then we have a new set of wings coming soon too).  That's a LOT of graphics that must be downloaded.

I don't think the wings would apply. If one were to buy a digo wich was an uploadable avatar, it would be seperate from the wings. If you wanted wings, add wings to it. That simple.

And if made a buyable digo item, or added to silver sponcer, then having the ability to upload a dragon of pheonix or whatever would be mute since it would still be paid for.

However, a single avatar requires one standing, two walking, one sitting, and one laying graphic per direction. thats 20 sprites. One or two ppl entering a dream with that might not be bad, even for a 56k, but when you have 10 or more, even cable or dsl users would experience some download problems.

Nice idea though.

Inhandra's point was that there are alot of various avatar poses (each one being a different 'picture').  And yes, the winged avatar is a different set from the non winged basic avatar.  Admitedly, those are all downloaded when you get the installer, as compared to downloading custom avatars on the fly, even thought a custom avatar is still.. what.. 16 poses/positions?
So, still all a moot point.

Just because they're web-based doesn't mean they're not like Furcadia. I believe I said that they weren't as advanced as Furc, and they aren't... but still, the same concept. As on Avataur, the gargoyles actually have animations. They're working on it! Perhaps it could be an option you can turn off/on to view avatars. For instance, when you click someone, it can ask you (Would you like to view this person's avatar?), and if you say 'yes' it'll take a second to download it.

But it was just an idea, anyway.
