Ok like all of you I want to look like a guy and have my gal look like a girl. I dont think it would take that much effort if i had the programing code and some tools id do it myself and post it for download. And if you guys are gonna say this will bring up sexism well i got news for you its already here, so its not going to matter. We simply need it because it would look a lot nicer and be much more usefull with patches also, being a patcher im limited to my options as are others, you have to make the death defying option on who will be the guy or who will be the girl. All im saying is we are all unisex right now and it needs to be changed to male and female. Isnt it some form of sexism to have us all look the same anyways?

That won't work. This topic has been disussed before. they would have to make a new avatar for each furre, which means ALSO a standing, sitting, and lying position for each furre. that's a WHOLE lot of work, and work that's also not needed.

It would help if you gave some strong reasons why its needed to persuade the staff to even take your suggestion into consideration.

1. Its funner being more manly or feminen
2.It looks better 3. you can identify people better 4. you wouldnt be one sex 5. youd have more controll over your character 6.Unlimited results of patches. 7. It allows for more role play 8. you can spot people out faster 9.It could add to more color designs 10. Its more anatomically correct ![]() 11.it would incourage diversity The only reason furcadia didnt do it was because they were afraid of giveing a girl breast and stuff like that. I think what they should do is keep the models they have but give the females a more feminen look, dont put a dress on them or something cause that is kinda sexist. Instead just put some breast on them and make the guys a bit stronger looking? This post has been edited by Iced Stallion: Mar 31 2000, 06:00 AM |

They won't do it for several reasons..
1) More programming.. 2) More avatars 3) Sexual harassment will increase 500 fold 4) There will be more Yiffyness everywhere 5) New furres will exploit it and run around and be like "LOOK AT ME! I HAVE BREASTS!" List goes on.. This post has been edited by Kage: Mar 31 2000, 04:00 AM |

QUOTE 3) Sexual harassment will increase 500 fold 4) There will be more Yiffyness everywhere 5) New furres will exploit it and run around and be like "LOOK AT ME! I HAVE BREASTS!" If they worried about abuse of features when implementing them, they wouldn't have introduced breath with the dragons or flames with the phoenix. Whether the avatars have breasts or not, yiffing will exist. If people like it, its gonna happen, no matter what it looks like. ![]() Harassment of every form will always be a problem. |

I you wanted more avatarts
I might suggest looking in More Money for Furcadia, Custom Avatars and giving your opinion. Thinks back to the weeks lost inside of Populous the Beginning Bullfrog. One female, Shaman everything else braves, males, building huts, Going insde, Somehow making more Braves. Do we need Shemales. errr Shamans? Braves can doo eet, why can't furres? I don't think it's a fair thing to request, really. I figure if you want them, make them yourself. The avatars have always been unisex, and it's never seemed to bother anyone enough to warrant a change. I would imagine male/female avatars for every species would slow the game down twofold, as well... but I could be mistaken. Not to mention the amount of work it would take... it would be ridiculous. Furcadia has been around years, and if I'm not mistaken, it started out just as felines and canines. Over the years new races were added. It's taken a lot of effort and a lot of time to get to where it is, with pheonixes and rabbits and dragons around, from what I've noticed. Why push for more? 90% of the people on Furc aren't paying anything for it. Why be picky about whether you look girly/manly enough? I suppose it might be a "pride" issue...

As a patcher that has watched a lot of patches move, it is obvious that the unisex or male avatar as it is now is still lkimited, this topic has been raised many times through the years that I have been here.
Freeforming in the only Gender specifics. And because the game still claims to be alpha and has started gaining funds out of the commuity, It is time to put it back into perspective once again. would a female version of the avatar be more appreciable then wings or butterfly wings or tri wings? I believe so. Because it would of helped foster, a greater community spirit. |

.. This topic always goes around and around in circles, and never actually get anywhere. People argue about the size of the download, the sexism that would be present, and so on.. but in my opinion, it'd just be weird. Furc's always been unisex, and it's not something that plays on my brain.. it's just something that we've all accepted (well, most of us, anyway), and it's the way most of us like it.
And as for the whole, "Dresses might be kind of sexist.. so just make the guys stronger looking!".. meh. I guess one day, they might consider changing it.. but if they do, I hope there's the option to keep it like it is, so we can all be blissfully oblivious of breastage and manliness if we want.. :D |

If a topic goes around in circles, Stallion, it means it cannot be resolved, not that it is needed.
Get some real arguements, and maybe people will take you seriously on this issue. Your 'list' of arguements has more repeats then a box of cheerios. |

I'm frequently asked why Furcadia doesn't have male and female shapes when all the other games out there do. Here's what I say:
34. "Could you add male and female walking shapes?" --I'm sorry, but no. This question isn't as simple as it sounds. Early on, Furcadia's predecessor DragonSpires had both genders. As a direct result of this, the atmosphere was different. Amongst the major problems was abusive behavior towards females and strong adult language that the filters could not prevent. The need for Owsla [Guardians] would have been much higher and I was never in favor of having the game be forever patrolled by "babysitters". I was faced with a VERY hard decision here: to risk my livelihood by taking the chance that we'd have a game that we would have to ban anybody under 18, or to make a game that I felt confident even 10 year olds could have a good time playing!!! I knew there would be time for four or five shapes. We could have males and females but we'd have to have limited it to canines and mustelines. Or I could dump the females and have canines, mustelines, equines, and rodents. I opted for having no genders, and twice as many shapes. Unless we're charging for it, I'm inclined to add 1 new Types, not an extra version of an existing ones. Having three winged versions already makes adding one new type a huge chore. If we were to go over to having females now, it would cost as much time as it takes to modify 400 frames of animation. Even if there was time to add the second genders, the size of the download is still a MAJOR limiting factor for Furcadia, and it still is. Furcadia's market includes people with slow connections, who can't play real-time action games and often can't afford a game that charges a monthly fee. It also includes people who have slow connections because they live overseas. Every byte added to our download increases the chance of a disconnect during download. If that happens, they may try again. But they're very very likely to say, "Heck with this-- I'm playing NeoPets!" and then we've lost a potential Furre. Our download size is already severely pushing the limits. I *do* agree with everybody who says, it would be nice to have female figures. I'm still open to that possibility. But something would have to change that counteracts the abusive atmosphere problem in a way that doesn't depend on us having to police the game more. Another (less significant) problem is that, in the year 2001, wearing skirts is subtly associated with a menial position, more and more. Waitresses, female secretaries, female nurses, female receptionists, cheerleaders who are there to lead the worship of male athletes, stereotypically all wear skirts. In modern times, women don't all have long hair, they don't all have big Lara Croft sized breasts, and they don't all wear skirts. Maybe it's just as well that Furcadia's avatars are unisex for now. --Talzhemir This post has been edited by Talzhemir: Mar 31 2000, 06:00 AM |

I TOTALLY agree with Talz. I (being a patcher) know how much time it takes to make even a small set of animations... to go through males, females, AND non-gender furries? Id rather die.
And i stress again, if colors arnt enough to spot your friend in a traffic jam, then i feel really sorry for you. Not to mention portraits... i feel portraits are enough for telling what sex someone is. You must learn to CLICK!!!!!!!! Oh yes... then comes downloads... Yes, haveing different avatar sexs would be great for swimsuit/wedding/etc patches, but can you imagine the downloads? I have enough trouble getting into 1 MB dreams... thank god for my patience or i WOULD be in NeoPets right now. And last, but certainly not least... a 9 year old little girl comes on furc and she finds she has boobs... O.o (thinks of what her niece and nephew would say) |

In all honesty, the gender thing isn't all that important (especially since the unisex body allows for all body types and keeps you from assuming and so forth), but what -would- be nice is if the avatars and the pictures actually... matched...? A pair of baldrics on the feline avatar... but a sleeved shirt on the pic...? It confuses.

Alright...
This is why we have male/female/undefined PORTRAITS...the PORTRAITS are usually a good indicator of what blasted genders furres are. It doesn't take that much energy to move your mouse around and click on people if you really want to know somefurre's gender, now does it? That's what the portraits are there for. Merf...x.x It's easier for patchsmiths like me, it's easier for Furc's poor little tortured server, and it's easier for the players of the game. If you want a game that has sexed avatars with eight different species available (includes Dragons and Phoes) which adds up to sixteen in all, plus all the color options, plus the ability to get wings and portrait spaces, plus all the extra programs that help people customize it and make their own patches for dreams (assuming there is a way to upload custom maps and patches), then be my guest and try to create one. Quite frankly, I'm not sure if a little knowledge in C++ would make you genius enough to compare with Furcadia's creators. So have fun and knock your self out. |
