Personal Digos (Custom Avatars) Options

Ok. We all love digos, right? Well... what if you had a personal digo? A 'personal' digo is like any other digo- only customized, like a port. Like the other digos, it can be turned on and off (no digo animations though... that might be too difficult). Of course, it'd cost much more than the dragon. Once you have bought your 'personal' digo, it won't come into effect until the desired avatar file is given. Then it'd be checked and all and accepted/declined. Like a port, it can't be changed unless you have a gold (not silver) sponser (That's what they can do, right? I'm not too sharp with sponser benefits.) or for life 'personal' digo. Free digo days may or may not have this option, though I think it would be safer not to as many people wouldn't want to go through so much hassle for only one day and it'd be something that could stand out even on digo day.



This would also be a good way for other player to earn ports/dragonscales/digos/etc. Not sure about copyright issues though. *shrug* Once they've bought it from you, they're allowed to do almost (except for re-distributing and the obvious) anything with it, right?



I hope I've thought it through enough. Hopefully it wouldn't kill Furc by lag seeing as it's alot more data. :\ But that's what the increased price is for. Dunno the what the price should be ethier. Any ideas for that and extending on this idea would be great. 8D

Major stoppingblock #1 ...you are aware that any digo you draw has to be added tot he avatar 19 times? There's 19 frams of animation for eahc species...and that's jsut if you want your digo to work on only 1 species..what fi you want it to work on all of them?

This is really quite similar to the custom avatar suggestion, which has been discussed extensively on the forums since at least 2002. Please refer to Frequently Suggested Avatars to read the previous threads on custom avatars.

As Talzhemir explained in one of those threads, there is a conflict between the desire to have as many species as possible and the desire to make the download time reasonable. A new avatar adds a considerable amount of time to the download, since each avatar consists of 20 individual frames. If those custom avatars can have wings, that's 100 frames total!

I'm quite aware of this. That's why I mentioned that you could only have one personal digo per person unless you have a GOLD sponsership or possibly a for life digo. Also why it should be the most expensive.

Yes, I'm aware of this also. However, I think the adding of wings onto a personal digo would be too much- therefore, it'd be like a dragon, gryffe, or hawk- it's own digo. No wings.



I'm also aware that it would take a long time to download. Another reason why it should be priced highly. It'd help for the time being, but when enough people have bought it, I believe it'd be enough time for furc to have more upgrades and be fast enough to support it. Just my opinion. I could be wrong and there could be many people crazy enough to buy it before a possible sale or something. o.O I dunno. People are nuts. XP[/font]

I haven't thought of that. Presumably you'd be seen as the default avvie until your avatar loaded. ;P

However walking into a crowded map of custom digos (AI or FurN, even some private dreams) on a dial-up connection could potentionally make new furres or even veterans want to quit furcadia.

I do believe this is one of the main reasons why Furcadia has allowed users to make their own 'dreams.' Yes, making your own dreams, it's making your own worlds.. your own reality, "anything goes" is how you can say it respectivly. Making this oppertunity bigger was the add-on of patch making.. not just using the patches Furcadia gave you by default, but creating your own. Then adding another section of creating your own avatars. Making every avatar to be what you want it to be, in a limited sourse, of course. Now, with the newest add-on was Local Species. Local Species can be described as many ways: One way is that it can 'replace' the origian avatar by DragonSpeak, allowing a certian fiew (or all, or one) fur's to change into this Local Species Avatar, again with limited sourses.

Having the ability to create your own 'customizable' digo was given to you when Dream Ed and FSH Ed was distributed in public. I will reject to anything that will have to come to any user being able to edit, add, or remove something from what is suppose to be seen in the main maps for all fur's to see. I know that may seem harsh, but think about it: One you would allow other fur's to be able to create anything to their chracter.. whether it would be a knife, a toy, or something rated R.. Yes, you mentioned about 'having the same guidelines as portraits do.' Adding that will just be more stuff that DEP has to go through over top of everything else, whcih isn't nessessary.

Now, if you still feel that you should create your own 'customizable' digo, why not edit your default patches so that YOU can see whatever you wish to be customized... Or, using Furnarchy's latest model, edit it so that you can create your own 'customizable' digo and others with that same module for Furnarchy can view what you created... Everything has a limit excepct to dreaming! Be creative, create it in your world, with Furcadia's Dream Editor!
