Due to the inceasing incidents where people get error 10035/10038 upon connection and have no idea what does it mean or what to do about it, I'm writing this post to save those people the time waiting for a response to each thread they make on the subject.
Error Definition & Reason The error 10053 ("Software caused connection close") and 10038 ("Socket operation on non-socket") during login procedures usually indicate that for some reason, the connection to the client was interrupted before it could handle a real error message, be it a "Goodbye." or the "Bad password" message. The fact is, however, that the connection to the server itself succeeded, else you wouldn't see the logon news to begin with. The reason for this could be either the client not bothering to handle the error message since the connection is already closed or the server closing the connection too fast - before the operating system it runs on manages to transmit the data with the error message (no flushing? ;). While this particular problem occurs to a relatively small amount of people, there seems to be an increase in forum posts related to this issue and I hope this problem will be dealt with when the major update comes. Solution Methods Usually when getting such an error during login I'd suggest to check the password: get a new INI file from the INI Retrieval Page (even if you didn't change the password - the existing file may be broken in some way) and put it in your Furcadia folder, replacing the one responsible for the character you can't login with. If INI retrieval doesn't work, it might be a suspension. To be 100% certain of the error message, you might want to perform a login through telnet: Note: Try not to make ANY typos in telnet since the backspace key might not help you correct it! If you do, you might have to re-do all the steps below.
If you are suspended afterall, to solve this you will have to contact the guardians at guardians@furcadia.com, explain your condition and settle this matter with them. Otherwise, if it's a login error and you're completely sure that your password is correct, your character may have been stolen or you might've forgotten the password. You can try resetting your password by using the Change Lost Password page - the confirmation should arrive at the e-mail address you've set on the character. If it is no longer valid or the confirmation doesn't seem to come, you might need to contact the guardians by e-mail in order to deal with the problem further (even if you didn't do anything wrong to be banned!). Note that if it's not a name you've originally created, you might have a lot less success in recovering your character! Finally, if you could successfully log into the system, yet your client can't, you should retrieve the INI file from the page mentioned above in order to update your client with the right login information or edit the existing INI file manually with notepad. The file itself should be pretty clear to understand. If that doesn't work, check your firewall software to allow connections for Furcadia.exe as it most likely doesn't! I hope this clears some things up for people and solves a problem or two. If you still have connectivity issues for some reason, either post on this forum about it or contact a Bugge Hunter in-game to try and solve it by sending in a help call. To do so, type help problem description (i.e.: help My other character crashes when I try to log in with it.). If you can do neither of these, you can write an e-mail to techsupport@furcadia.com and get help there. Have fun! |

If you've tried this, as is, and it doesn't seem to connect, you may want to check your telnet setup to ensure that it works right. Personally, I've tried this a few times, without success, then decided to check my settings, and using the command "display", they now read:
CODE Microsoft Telnet> display Escape Character is 'CTRL+]' WONT AUTH (NTLM Authentication) LOCAL_ECHO on Sending both CR & LF WILL TERM TYPE Preferred Term Type is VT100 To "set" or "unset" a setting, you use that exact wording, for example: CODE unset ntlm turns off the NTLM Authentication andCODE set crlf turns on the sending of CR+LF when you press enter. To close a telnet session, you can use that CTRL+] to "escape" to the terminal window, then just type the word "close". Then again, if you manage to connect successfull to the server, "quit" works just fine as well. ![]() |

Well I tried all of that; and; I managed to connect on Telnet. I even had a friend whisper me and I could see it, I just couldn't figure out how to reply. But the Furcadia program STILL won't work. It still freezes at 4/10. What the hell is wrong with it?? It's really starting to tick me off >_<

Try getting a new INI from http://www.furcadia.com/services/retrieve/ - maybe the login information is incorrect. The reason it freezes up on 2 and doesn't go on is that it did connect, but was turned away with an error of some sort. Normally, telnet should tell what the error is, but if you could log in, then apparently there's nothing wrong. As such, maybe the login information in your ini file is either corrupted or invalid. Happens sometimes.

I cannot connect via telnet and have disabled any firewalls. Furthermore, when I try to run the autoconfig it says I am forcefully rejected.

Still not connecting, despite messing with the settings. I've outlined my problem here, just to make things clearer.

Same thing is happening for me. It started yesterday around 4:30 PM. I was on my alt Tsukasaru, and decided to place another alt online, and when I went to log her in it loaded to 4/14 and then it said:
"Furcadia failed to connect to the game server. Please try again later or check your settings." I just tried to replace Tsukasaru's INI file, and it did nothing. The only difference is that it loaded 14/14 and then slammed the same error message up immediately, so... I dunno what to do. Help? I did check with my friends as well, and they've been online and without any kind of issue connecting whatsoever, so I know it's not Furc-wide. |
