Kitterwing Update!, Discussion Thread Options

Furcadia will be updating April 6th! This will not be the full Kitterwing update originally planned, though it will still have many cool new features. Windows came out with a new OS, Vista, so we needed to put out a new client that worked well with it. Since we are putting in needed programming to make Vista work, we decided to put together a bunch of the stuff that was close to ready into this update as well. It was supposed to be just a quick little update, which has turned into a pretty major one!

It will prompt you to download when you try to log in. You can wait for the game to send you the download or go to one of our download hosting sites to get the update. We do not expect for any of your dreams or .ini files to be damaged or lost. They will still be there when you update. You can rename and save them someplace else though, if it would make you feel safer. If you have patched your DEFAULT folder, you will have to back up those patches as they will be overwritten. Note that some files will be installing in your "My Documents" Folder, as Vista requires that any files that are "written" to, need to be there. That's where you will find your logfiles.

We won't be adding in Accounts or Group Packages unfortunately as they were not close enough to completion and we need to get Vista compatibility out very soon. That also means Gold Sponsorships, Adult Verification and the new maps won't be going in. These things will come out in the update after this one.

There will be a special Premiere Party in test world for Silver Sponsors the day before we ship. Hope you enjoy all the new toys!

I disagree, too. While a tiny fraction of those Vista users play Furcadia, that will only get bigger as time goes on.
Players are getting new computers with Vista on. Players are upgrading to Vista. Furcadia players are getting Vista in whatever way, and they are going to be annoyed if they can't play Furc all because they decided to upgrade to Microsoft's latest and most expensive security hole.
And, if they can't play Furc, then they may leave it and lose more possible sources of revenue for DEP.
Furcadia may not have needed so many changes to work on Vista. And besides, we're getting a great update to go with it.
Only thing I'm worried about is Dreamer. I can't live without it. Hopefully Reunion will update it quickly.

Ah yes, I've already planned to switch to vista, I was a beta tester for it ((Beta2 and RC1)) and want to see how it turned out. Also, I love dreamer. I'm planning on taking full advantage of the "Ds Buttons". I can already see the dream possiblitys with this new update. I can use the scilence DS for meetings, DS buttons for easier commands, dreamURL disable for private guild dreams ((along with the summon shield.) This update is exactly what I needed. Thanks DEP for your awsomeness.

Eh, whatever works. I just hope they aren't rushing this update. If it's fraught with bugs, then Vista users aren't going to be the only ones annoyed.
