here's the thing.. i know furcadia may not make all of these characters but i have seen alot of avatars lately that are really interesting.. but you can only be that thing unless you are in that dream.. like all the time.. i would be cool to someday have the ability to buy those avatars and keep them for your personal use. like moggles [those smallish owl looking things with the thing sticking out of their head] or panda's small panda's and furre size one's, or the small tiny rabbit that is as small as the small kitter [pixie]. Hmm.. there are more, OH the hound thing its like a cat like monster like creature that isnt overly big but interesting. There is the human avatars, the kitsune or nine tails, there is the other dragon which is that dragon that floats in the air and when you press the ds button for the dragon breath there are pink leaves that float around it its really cool i saw it on free digo day when i was in the dream of dragon sukura bath house dream it was really cool. there are like foxes, cats, nice looking wolves lol like the feral wolf... maybe even having the option of changing what your furre wheres like girls can have skirts and short shirts or a dress.. guys shorts or pants something neat. I cant think of anymore but those would be some nice add on's. I know i would definately pay to see this done biggrin.gif

Many similar suggestions have been made.

However, you must keep in mind that the copyrights of most custom local species are not owned by DEP. Legally, DEP would have to deal with the creators of the custom species, through buying the avatars or commissioning the artist. I'm sure Emmie or other DEP employee can give you a better idea of the hurdles that would have to be made.

However, I think I can safely say that moogles will never become an official Furcadia avatar. Moogles belong to the game company Square Enix. Were Furcadia to officially adopt moogles as an avatar, DEP would certainly expect a visit from Square Enix's lawyers. The same can be said of any avatar which qualifies as a Furcadia adaptation of a copyrighted character or species. Individual players can get away with it because they're too small potatoes.

DEP is already planning out a system to buy gendered versions of your avatar so you can actually LOOK more masculine or feminine, which may satisfy your skirt request. However I doubt this is going to be anytime SOON, so don't go getting too excited, but I believe they've mentioned it's in the works.

And I really do hope that the girl species don't HAVE to wear skirts. My personality is much more along the lines of super-mega-tomboy than anything else.

Maybe a way to toggle on and off the feminine/masculine specifications. I'd actually like that. O:

Well that is a bummer for the new avatars, but i completely understand now. see.. i never knew that until now about how they are like copyrights or personally made, i never knew that but i do hope that along the years furcadia may come up with more avatars. I am a fan of the already made furcadia avatars and the new seasonal ones as well. So i am i a big spender when it comes to things like this. Although im not saying im like the only one who buys lol im sure there are others.. many others that buy more than me. but im new to furcadia and i think all these new gadgets and additions will keep our furre's here and happy and most likely invite new ones. On the topic of the clothes i do think thats pretty neat about how they were discussing to make the males more masculine and female more femme, but i do agree with sheto it would be cool to toggle it on or off or maybe it will be made into an avatar that will be able to be done, who knows lol. but I for one do not get overly excited lol excited ,yes, to knows its in thoughts of an possibilty. smile.gif But furcadia just keeps getting better. I hope that they keep coming up with new ideas to help furcadia grow and expand more and for the most part to continue on for many years to come biggrin.gif

Have no worries. I've heard that DEP has a long list of features they want to add into Furcadia and some of those are new avatars. However, it may take a good while before DEP can add them.

Stop that.

And to tomboys, the gender specific avatars will probably be something you have to pay for - not something default in the game for free. If you don't want a skirt, probably you'll just keep the basic free avatar and not pay for a female one. smile.gif

But it seems DEP's priority is on new species avatars, not gendered versions of the current ones, and I'm cool with that. wink.gif

I think gender species should be free. Pretty soon we'll have to buy a "keyboard for life" to even chat on Furcadia lol.

Art costs us money. Gendered species cost a lot of money. You should read some of the other threads on this before commenting on them. Think about it, even just counting the Hero series (we have plans for multiples sets with different body types and costumes), that's 2 avatars per species....not even counting Digo species, that's 18 avatars...20 frames an avatar. If you were an artist, even a non-professional one, how much would you charge for that?

Mitoshen, Furcadia is one of the few online games where you DON'T have to pay every month just to play the game.

Gendered avatars just aren't that important - you have gendered portraits to determine yourself and there are far more species to pick from than there usually are races or classes to pick from in other free MMOs.

It would be nice, yes, but it would be a heck of a lot of work and not necessary to play the game - so it would cost money.

Emerald, if the player art was handled differently by the client then it would be a lot less work. If you had it so the basic avatars were done, and then the wings and everthing were added onto them by the client before rendering them onto the screen, which is what most games do, wouldn't that save a lot of time and work? Money..

Emmie is talking about making the things in the first place, not in how they are handled by the client. Making avatars takes time and effort, especially for good quality ones. You'll notice that patchmakers who crank out lots of avatars generally tend to charge for at least part of their work.

Personally im a crazy person i will pay oober amounts of money just to have something that furcadia may come up with. So to me money is nothing really. But as far as i know whatever furcadia does is fair, the game is free there are many free avatars already and lots of cool offers and gadgets. All i have to say is keep up the good work guys. And for those picky people that want to argue about the prices or what they did without thinking is there fault and they shouldnt complain if they do they could always go to an online game thats much more expensive. No one said you HAD to play furcadia or HAD to buy the items. If they wanted to play this complexed and awesomely greated game then they would have to deal with what the "game" had to offer. Furcadia did have a read me yah know. <3 Wo0t for furcadia, keep up the good work guys we are lovin it!! biggrin.gif

DEP's only four people large. Would you like to volunteer to re-program the Furcadia client to handle avatars this way, test it for bugs, re-work all the current artwork to work with the new system, and implement it to the server with as little down time as possible?

That in no way helps with gendered avatars and it's a huge new system...which has been long planned, but we don't have the resources to implment. It doesn't change the amount of art that needs to be drawn.
