Hi! New to Furcadia..and to be honest, I wanted to know...would having Scalies (snakes, lizards, etc.), Slimeys (frogs, toads, etc.), or any other sort of cold-blooded anthros (such as Avians and Insects) take away from Furcadia?

This IS Furcadia. I wouldn't know much of anything.

The Dragons are typically considered reptiles (AKA scalies) and are based upon the Wyrmmes of the background Dragonlands continuity. Avians (birds) are warm-blooded, not cold-blooded, and are represented by the phoenixes and griffins. Free versions of both types of critters have been suggested many times. Talzhemir has hinted of the possibility for free ducks.

Bugges (insects) are part of the Dragonlands continuity, so could show up in the future.

Amphibians are a big question mark as I don't know of any in the Dragonlands continuity.

To answer your question, I doubt these will take away from Furcadia.

Welcome to Furcadia!

I don't think that they would detract from Furcadia. Although Furcadia has primarily added mammals and mythical creatures, it's still "the magical world where the animals have learned to speak and walk upon two legs." There are many animals that are not mammals.

However, all of these ideas have been suggested before. I have archived previous discussions on my list of Frequently Suggested Avatars. In this thread, I included a summary of any comments by those who work for DEP (the company that runs Furcadia).

So far, most of the new species have been based on the Dragonlands, Furcadia's official back-story. Below are some excerpts from my post that address each of your suggestions.

Scalies: Reptiles are one of the most common suggestions. Some people are opposed to adding animals without fur. (They believe that "Furcadia" means furry animals and mythical creatures only.) Currently, the Dragonlands does not allow dinosaurs or reptiles, but there are Serps (snake-people), Nagafurres (upper body of a furre; lower body of a snake), and Eetrox (primitive and raptor-like). A Naga avatar might be in the works.

Avians/Birds/Byrddes: Talzhemir said that there will be a free avian avatar called a "Byrdde." There may also be a duck. Traditionally, birds in the Dragonlands are not sentient (unless they're Ferians). Birds are used for food, transportation, and bird-wool. Byrddes will be a lost race from a primordial part of Drakoria.

Bugges, Insects, and Spiders: Bugges are a race of sentient insects. (They are used as slaves in Drakoria.) Their social structure is a hive, where only the Queen lays eggs. Bugge larvae resemble caterpillars, and they have the intelligence of a 7-year-old child. It's possible that a Bugge avatar will be added. Bugges have been on Talzhemir's to-do list for some time.

All right! I'll take looks at the links and save them to read. Thanks. Is there any sort of petition going on for them?

Nope! Dragon's Eye Productions pays very close attention to the forums and the players suggestions, though. This has been suggested many, many times, DEP may not have decided for sure whether they will be implemented, but they are aware that players are asking about them.

Petitions are generally frowned upon here. I know they seem benign, but forming a petition is a little aggressive. Their purpose is usually to demand that changes be made and backing it up with a bunch of signatures from people who are demanding the change. Great for civil rights movements, but a little heavy-handed and insulting when you're demanding changes for a game that is free - which is, essentially, a gift to the players.

I know you weren't talking of starting one, so I hope you don't think I'm being mean here - you said you were new, though, and I figured this was a handy little bit of information for you to know! DEP is very accessible and very friendly, it's easy to post suggestions on the forums, no need to make petitions or anything, and in the past, petitions have done little but irritate and insult the members of DEP.

By the way, welcome to Furcadia! We're delighted to have you! :3
