I was just looking at the beautiful new Nobility avatars, it hit me. Why doesn't furcadia do gender specific default avatars? And why are they making lovely good quality avatars while the older avatars- both the defaults and older digos like the dragon- sit in all their (in comparison) poorly-pixeled, strictly male-looking glory. Even if they don't make them gender specific and save that for the Nobility avatars (which I'd be fine with) why not spice up the old ones anyway? The first four defaults (canine, feline, musteleine, equine) and the lapine barely look like they belong to furcadia anymore when compared with the new works.

Before you cry that it'd be too much work on the artists or something, consider this: 1) they make cruddy seasonal avatars that no one likes (a couple of them are cute like the Floxen, yes, but seriously, a fairy toaster?), and 2) they are professionals; they should make time.

If I remember right, they'll start updating the default avatars some time after the color update.

Gendered avatars will not be free, but I think they want to do one for each species including mythicals at some point? I may be remembering this wrong.

The seasonals are actually pretty well recieved from what I see. So much so, that they released for-life versions of them. So it's a tad unfair for you to say that "no one" likes them. Because you are not everyone and you shouldn't try speaking for everyone using your opinion.

They are making time, but they are also making time for everything else that people want to be released so badly. So really, it shouldn't be that they need to make time, but that some people need to have more patience and give them time to do all these things. You can't remaking 17 avatars then make 17 more to be the other gender in a day. It's just not possible. And DEP is such a small business that, yes, it is going to take a long time for things to be done.

These things have been suggested countless times before. But no matter how in a bunch your panties get over it, you can't make them work any faster; so you'll just have to wait. And if you don't like waiting... well, then tough cookies. :P

DEP does not plan to add male/female versions of the free avatars. However, in the future there may be different clothing and hairstyles that can be used to make the default avatars look more masculine or feminine.

The current androgynous avatars will still be available in 24-bit in a nicer resized and detailed version. We do not plan at this time to make male/female version of them for free. However, we do plan to make several different body types in the male/female avatars for different species. The "Nobal" series is currently beign worked on. There is also the possibility to use different clothing and hair styles to make even the default ones look more male or female or the male/female ones look more androgynous. Not all the clothing and body changes will necessarily cost money either. There are plans for the attention economy still where you might be able to earn some Mana to get some things. This is all a ways in the future though.

The free avatars will be redone in more detail after the 24-bit update is released.

Thank you for telling me this, I was unaware.

Well, no one I know appreciates the fairy toaster or the werewolf... tongue.gif Like I said, some of them are neat, but they seem to spend an awful lot of effort in space fillers.

I'm an artist. I know they can't make all the avatars over night. I never said that I wanted them now and today. I simply pointed out that if they have time to make fairy toasters and blobwerewolves, they should have time to make the normal avatars more pleasing to the eye.

The avatars you speak of did not take any of our artist time away. The ToasterWing was a joke piece of art commisioned by a friend of our's to represent another friend of our's. The artists that made it, Kinsem, doesn't do artwork for Furcadia normally. We thought the joke very funny and used the avatars for one of our April Fool's Day pranks, which we do every year. Many adored the avatar and we had huge requests for them. As "for life" items, they sold quite well.

The Werewolf is a creature in Furcadia's backstory. Talzhemir made the version of him long ago for fun on Halloween and we released him last year as a Seasonal to give more "monsterous fun" to Wolf Howl. This avatar also has a loyal following and was much requested as a "for life" item.

The sales of these avatars that were already made are helping to pay for other art and programming to be done. That is a good thing for you and everyone. If you want better art and improvements in Furcadia, the best way to support that is to buy Digos and/or join the Pixels and offer your help on projects. :)

I don't disagree with you that the base avatars badly need a redo and they are on the slate for it, after the 32-bit update, like others here have said. In fact, every single avatar (and the other art for that matter), including the new ones will need to be made into 32-bit versions and have their extra animation frames drawn. It's going to be a long and artful year for all of us!.

If you want to know more about what is planned for the future and what is currently in the works, I talk about this stuff frequently on the Silver Sponsor only forum. You need SS to be able to view that though! :)

Merc, you say you're an artist.. Well then, as emmie suggested, apply for the Pixels.. Then things may get done faster! biggrin.gif

Everything I was going to state, Rune and Em basically already did.
You need to take a breathe, and wait for the updates.

If you don't like the Toasters or the Werewolf, feel free to patch over them. You can find them in your furcadia default folder. If you need the exact path, feel free to whisper me in Furcadia and I'll give it to you. biggrin.gif

There are, however, many people who enjoy these digos, as well as all the others, so you cannot speak for everyone. biggrin.gif

Does it pay? Because I'm a greedy b******, have school, and my own projects.

Dude, you guys, chill out! I am a patient person, I can wait; I was simply unaware they actually did plan to update the avatars, which is why I suggested a revamp. If I was flipping out as much as you guys are making me out to be, with you're cries of "take a breather" and "don't get your panties in a bunch", my post would've looked more like this: "AH MAH GAWD FURC AVATURS R SO UGLEYR!!!! TEY NOBLS R ASWUM THEY SHUD BE FREE!!!!! D**** YOU PIXELS WORK FASTER YOU SWINE!!111!1!!" but it looks like that's all you see when you read my post anyway.

I'm an artist. I'm a patcher. I KNOW where the darn toaster and werewolves are. I already have patched over them, thank you (at least over the wereblob anyway).

Pixels are a Beekin volunteer possiton just like all the other Beekin Groups. Pixels help teach others how to do Furcadia art and help them when they have problems. They also work on special projects if they want to such as new main map or festival art and such.

However, when I am looking for artists to contract to help with Furcadia game art, I look at the Pixels first, because they've already shown that they want to help and we usually have some kind of idea if they are someone we can work with. We try not to waste our time on difficult artists or ones who won't fit well in our team. We expect professionalism if we are going pay someone, whether we pay them in Scales or Paypal.
