Hey everyone!

As you know, we got a mac client together for the new Furcadia client update. (http://www.furcadia.com/mac)

Obviously, we're expecting to have covered the majority of issues in the installer's info, and the help page (above), but if you have an issue which isn't listed there, please post it here, and i'll reply to you ASAP.

I'll be checking in on this post as much as i can (at least a few times a day!), so you should get an answer fairly quickly.

FAQs/Errors:

I helped test the RC version!
You rock the world, but you need to delete your prefix before installing the final version. Scroll down a little bit to the "Everythings broken! Can i start again!?" question, and start again!

The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance:
This is most likely because you already have Furcadia.app somewhere, and Wine or X11 is still running somewhere, even if its hidden. Try a restart, then delete any existing Furcadia.apps and try again.

OS will contain much more detailed information on what went wrong in console.app. Go to Applications, down to Utilities, and then open console. If needbe, click "Show Log List" at the top left the list isn't shown, and then pick "All Messages" under Database Searches. If you install again, you'll see a nice bunch of debug output. If you could PM that to me, ill let you know why it failed.

You cannot open the application "Furcadia" because it is not supported on this architecture.:
Furcadia for OS X requires 10.4.0 or higher, and an Intel Mac. It will not run on Power PC (PPC)

Oh my! Thats Laggy!
It's impossible to test every Mac during test, but some there are some speed issues on older machines, and couple on newer boxes, too! Animated Portraits, for example, seem to use a lot of CPU (so click onto someone without one after you've seen it!). Also, try lowering your animation settings. You can do this by opening "edit my settings" from the C tab.

I can't use F11/Some other key, because Apple steal it!
Everything you can do with F-keys, you can do in either edit my settings, or the A-F tabs. There is nothing we can do about this one!

Everythings broken! Can i start again!?
You can! The Furcadia.app application inside /Applications contains a clean, untouched version of the entire filesystem needed to run the Windows client. This is never modified by the application, instead, when launched for the first time, it is copied to your local profile and edited there. So in order to start everything again you need to remove that local copy, which is known as your "prefix".

To remove it, you need to open finder and click through the following folders: [Your user name], Library, Application Suppport, Wine, prefixes. Then delete the whole Furcadia folder and open Furcadia.app again. Please remember though, this will remove your character .ini files, along with dreams, portraits, etc you've created and saved locally.

You also need to make sure Furcadia isn't running, first! (See the next question!)

How do i close everything to do with Furcadia for OS X
When launched, Furcadia.app starts X11, then Wine, and then Pounce and the actual client. Even if you exit Furcadia, Pounce, Wine and X11 remain.

If you click the White window with the black X from the dock, you can then quit X11 in a typical way (Apple Key + Q, or click its name then quit from the top menu bar). This will close Furcadia and all its supporting applications.

If you see a wine glass in the top menu bar, click it and choose "Quit Wine" (Though you will only see it if you've started Furcadia applications manually)

I'm having Dream Download issues
This is almost certainly caused by either a Firewall, or a misconfiguration in Furcadia's settings. If you're using a proxy, make sure its configured properly, alternatively, you should run autoconfig (see http://www.furcadia.com/mac on how to run Furcadia's supporting tools) and try again. If you still have problems try changing the ports used for downloading/uploading in Furcadia's settings.

I want to open alts!
That'll work! Thanks to Alatariel, who pointed out a much simpler way to do it than i thought was possible: iIf you click the pawprint on the wine system thing, it brings up pounce, and you can click the furcadia icon on pounce to bring up another character. biggrin.gif

You probably can't get on Furc right now because it's restarting for the update right now.

I'm getting the same exact problem. Tried both download sites. Everything's in order, but the installation fails without explanation.

I have a brand new Imac.

When I go to About This Mac I get: Mac OS X Version 10.6.2

I downloaded the client, I went through the instructions, once I get to to a certain point where it is supposed to launch a pop-up comes up and says:

Action
Preparing "Furcadia"
(Insert a status bar here that is 75% full)
Launching "Furcadia

This status bar never advanced past 75%. No matter if I leave it up for hours.

Any help is appreciated.

You can turn animations off with f11 on the normal client. Not sure if it works similarly on the Mac client.

Go to the configuration utility (Tab C -> edit my settings). In the Gameplay->General section you'll see animation settings. Use those.

Hey. My friend tried getting on MacFurc today. He downloaded the update, then downloaded OS X11 like it told him to. He gets an error when he clicks on the application to run Furc.
Him: When I go to open the app it says: "You cannot open the application "Furcadia" because it is not supported on this architecture."

Any ideas?

I think they only support macs that use Intel processors in them. Maybe he has the PowerPC one and the program is not built for that... That's mainly what is meant by "architecture" anyway.
