As a male, I think boobs are pretty frickin' awesome. So it's understandable that I'm none too fond of breast cancer. -- In fact I'm none too fond of cancer in any form, being a cancer survivor myself.
I'm here to suggest a Booby Bird added to the Digo Market to promote breast cancer awareness, either in the form of a Desc Tag or an Avatar. Considering the premise of bringing awareness to such a horrible disease, releasing a Digo item seems a touch useless beyond the scope of Furcadia's patrons. But what if the Digo item were priced slightly askew than normally set, in part to pay for the Digo item and in secondary part to donate a portion to breast cancer research or relative event outside of the online world? As an example: Desctags can cost anywhere from $1 for sharable Cookies and $40 for a permanent Engagement Ring. Avatars can cost anywhere from $5 to $250. If a 2 week Booby Bird desctag were priced at $15: DEP could take in $10, and hand out $5. (Or any other fraction of the total sum.) If a 1 year Booby Avatar were to cost $35: DEP could take in $25 and hand out $10. For some reason the back of my mind is informing me that this concept has been brought up before, but I can't recall the outcome. I'm going to assume it had something to do with accounting being a pain in the bum. Additionally, due to the possibiliy of some construing it to be inappropriate for children -- which is fine -- it might only be something worth considering once accounts go in and the adult maps open up. |

I would like to request a giant, floating scotum avatar to promote testicular cancer awareness.
Or maybe just a pair of bowling balls. |

I totally support this all the way, I'd buy one. You could also do a Blue Tit.

I'd buy a booby, especially if it came with a pink ribbon desctag.
Will they be sold in pairs? |

Come on guys, blue-footed boobies ARE in fact, a real animal. Google it if you don't belive me. I, for one, support this lovely idea, and would buy a blue-footed booby digo if it were real.

I think this would be a great idea. And I believe that a lot of players would buy this just to donate to the cause, along with getting the actual avatar. It has (not the Booby Bird in general) been brought up before to slash the revenue to partly give as donations to a foundation for some type of cause. I'm not sure of what the outcome came to be, though.

Heck, even a simple "Boobies!" or "I <3 Tatas" desctag with a pink ribbon would be awesome! I'd totally buy one if I knew part of the proceeds were going to be donated to breast cancer research. And a desctag wouldn't be hard to make at all!
For that matter, desctags of all sorts could be made to support different causes... Prevention of animal cruelty, for example. I don't think there's a single Furc member who isn't an advocate for animal rights. We should probably avoid some of the more controversial topics just to prevent members with certain desctags from being descriminated against (such as 'Pro-Life' tags or tags which denote specific religions), but for general good causes such as breast & prostate cancer, prevention of animal cruelty, red cross donations for disaster relief worldwide, etc. this could be a good way for DEP to bring in a little cash AND to help make a difference in its community. |

The pink ribbon desctag is a nice idea, maybe even just a sale of existing stuff that comes with the desctag, and the profits from this particular sale goes to BC research. This means the staff don't have to come up with a new digo when they are already busy, but the desctag could be made pretty quickly. Heck I'm sure one of the players would even design it as their contribution. Could be a week long thing where all the weekly special offers came with the tag, and a percentage of the sale went to the charity

I like this idea very much, but agree the use of tacky slogans might be doing it over a bit much.
As for the other ideas posted, if there ever was an animal cruelty tag or digo made may I suggest whatever money was donated did not go to support such organizations as the Humane Society of the United States. A good one to donate to would definitely be like North Shore Animal League or the ASPCA, because they are very concerned about animal welfare as opposed to the HSUS. Looking it up, there is a purple ribbon that is for Animal Cruelty/Animal Welfare -- and another awesome idea might be to put the canen, catten...and other 'pet' like ferians on sale and also make a additional donation of some varying sum with those sales. I think another cause that might be good is for example, Suicide Awareness - http://www.save.org/ and maybe even Autism Awareness. All of this stuff would probably do good for Furcadia and for the corresponding organization that would recieve a donation! I really like this idea a lot! ![]() |

The butterfly wings used to give some money to butterfly conservation. However, DEP stopped this a long time ago.
I don't know if they'll bring it back, partly because there's a charity for everything under the sun these days. Choosing to back a cause is a major company decision. How can you determine what is worthy and what's not? The other reason is because it takes more paper work and DEP may have determined that the slight upturn in sales and associated warm fuzzies from doing good things was not worth the headaches. Anyway, just thought I'd toss in a fun fact and my ten cents. ![]() |

I aslo think breast cancer out of all the charities gets a lot of funding already. We've done several different charity sales in the past and I'm sure we will do others in the future! We like charities!

Yes, we'll definitely do charity sales again at some point in the future. Just for the record, our Monarch Foundation benefit was set up when two unusually harsh winters in a row had decimated the world's monarch butterfly population. Thankfully the next breeding season saw a huge rebound in their population, and the monarchs are in no danger of going extinct now. So we didn't feel the need to continue that one. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help out while the monarch butterflies were having trouble!
