I was reading that detachable parts (like tails) might become something on Furcadia. And it got me thinking.

Why not come up with a choice of color patterns for avatars? I mean, some people like an avatar but the colors don't match their port or they don't like how the colors are. So why not design some different color patterns for them?

Possibly like, stripes or spots and such? smile.gif I know I get frustrated when I see a ferian and its main color is the trouser color, because I want my fur color my base not my pants.

Kind of like skins for the avatars. you can choose to have this striped skin on your Panookie, or you can have spots!

Plus it would add to making the avatars more unique to the player smile.gif

Does sound cool. I ponder though if this could ever be transferred into something that could be edditted. It seems very simple.. but because changing color does require editting the entire avatar (as opposed to tacking on a tail) I feel that this would require an entirely different avatar per skin. Furc is not like a CGI mmorpg where the models are generated and controlled by a 3D CGI engine. Pixels don't really "morph". The avs would probably have to be turned into CGI models (getting rid of easy modding for players) to accomodate something like this.

I still deeply enjoy the idea, but I don't se eit happening purpley because of the fact that a skin isn't as easly tacked on as an apendage like a tail or wings.

Not necessarily. You could have the base avatar be entirely fur colored, and then, as a second layer add only the markings, which could be tacked on just like the tail. Weren't they considering doing something like this, but with clothing options? (I could be entirely wrong. Been mostly absent for more than 3 years..)

Of course, that would mean that markings would need to be avatar specific, since markings added to a feline avatar wouldn't match to the movements of the canine avatar.

The point being that it would still take up a LOT of space. If they make wings a tack on item they onyl need 1 set. But different patterns will require a seperate file for each diff pattern skin and for each species. In a sense it would be a little bit pointless because the patterns would have to fit each unique av differently. If spots are available to canine and equine, you still need 2 seperate files because teh canine and equine are different in shape.
Doing this with clothing makes slightly more sense but would still require a lot of space.

What if they just edited the avatars to be similar to the tygard ferians marking pattern? I mean, with the tygard you can have stripes, cheetah spots, and leopard spots, plus you can be a solid color. If they copied this and edited the avatars, there wouldn't be any more files.

Actually they could program it so that the spots/stripes layers only render on top of the avatar-layer, and go transparent otherwise. It'd be tricky to make it work out well, but it's definitely possible and would look pretty good.

Vote added.
But seems like everything is dependent on things that have been in the works for some odd years now....so how long will this take as well if it's even agreed to.
