The Male and Female genders of animals should be discernable. I don't like seeing a sprite with one set of colors, think it's a girl, then click it to see its really a guy. or the other way around. I propose a change in sprite graphics. the current ones could be for neutral genders, and extra sprites could be used for male and female.
Thoughts, comments, reasons this hasn't happened yet?

I'd say the reason it hasn't been done yet is that it would require so many more avatars (keeping in mind there's four different images for each avatar just to stand, let alone walk, sit, lie etc etc.) which would not only mean a lot of time creating them it would also increase the download size significantly.

That, and the sexual harrassment. :p

I kinda like them how they are. Androgynous, really. I don't have a problem with clicking to see what gender an individual is... and, also, it leaves more to the imagination, really.

And, there's always fun people like Kelliak Grimblade - Even when you click on them, you can't tell what gender they are. ^.^ (His custom port looks very feminie)

Why not? Because you believe that men should be 'real' men and women 'real' women?

What's wrong with a butch woman or a femenine man? They're still people. You can talk to them even without knowing what gender they are. You are implying that you have to change the way you are approaching them based on gender, which in my books, is sexist.

*wonders why a simple comment about male and female sprites makes him sexist and decides to ignore Morpius all together*

Well it seems most people enjoy the unisex sprites. So go ahead and forget the entire idea. Wouldn't want someone to think I'm SEXIST for having an IDEA.

Chibi, he got the impression you were sexist from two things:
1) leaping to conclusions about genders based on colors
2) implying that there are set appearances all women share that men don't have and vice versa.  But not all women are busty, and not all men are buff.  And some women are buff, and some men have narrower shoulders than others.  Any changes would be made simply to signify gender, not to ACTUALLY represent characters any better.

And for that you might as well float a gender symbol overhead.

As for the shock you express at the thought that IDEAS could be SEXIST, to use your emphasis, I have an idea: Lets round up all the men, take semen samples, and then castrate them so they don't continue to sexually harrass women.

What do you mean that's sexist?  It's just an IDEA.

No, your idea was NOTHING like that, but the POINT is that an IDEA can be SEXIST.

I would love to have male and female avatars as I have stated many times. The big reason why there isn't is the whole "sexual harassment" bit. I frankly think it's bull.

I wouldn't mind having an option for male and female avatars in private dreams. Unfortunately you can't do that without sacrificing species. And we already have seen that people like to throw fits if one species gets more of something than another does. (Like the whine about most of the emotionicons being feline.)

I agree with Youlanda that male and female avatars, or just general 'extension avatars' in dreams (that could be used for genders) would be great.

Eh, avatars with gender would be interesting, but I'd rather have a new species to play.  I'm always open to new species.

I'll have to agree with Morpius..why does it matter if it's a Female or Male -character- may I remind you it is only an online costume. And yeah, it'd be nice to have an extra character set in our dreams. If I recall though that's reserved only for sponsors.

I didn't know that. :cat-optimistic: I'll have to look into this sponsorship thing.

You people just want everything to look like Everquest, don't you?

Basically, i'm offended by the b****ing and whining over pixels.  If your imagination is so weak that you can't PRETEND they look like whatever they say they are, then I think Furcadia may not be the place for you.

Last I checked, furcadia was a place for socializing and RPing.  Both of which are mental-based actions.  NOT visual.

I still say Furc needs a MUCK.

And Everquest is my number one experience to tell me: Looking overtly like a female on an online game stinks.

The sexual harrasment happens in EQ.  BELIEVE me.
It's half the reason I quit EQ.

And as far as -I- know, sponsors have no extra avatar options in dreams. :p  We can change our avatar while playing, and that's all.

If I'm wrong, I'd love to know about it, so correct me, please. =p

Why does Furc need a MUCK? Just go join pre-established ones, like FurryMUCK or Sociopolitical Ramifications. They work anywhere, anytime, generally are more featured and tend to have a more mature (in behaviour) usertype.

Or maybe you're preaching want you won't do?

I ran around Lineage with a female avatar and had no problems.

This has been discussed a few times.

I think they tried it in dragonspires, and it added little enough to the game, and added enough sexual harassment, that the effort to make twice the number of avatars, and so hugely increase the download size just wasn't worth it.

Least, I think that's the conclusion that they came to.

I'd have to say I'm happy with the Status Quo.  I would, however, like to see some sort of patchwork that allows furres to upload their own male/female/unspec. avatars to a dream for furres to use.

As for problems telling what gender a furre is playing, there's a nifty little thing called "specitags".  If you read them just right, you can figure out gender, specie, colors, all by a little tag!  The heads on them specify what Species they are.  Where the head is located specifies what Gender they are (Males on Left, Femmes on Right, Unspec. in Middle).  And the specitags themselves even resemble the furre, because they're taken from our colorcodes.  Nifty, eh?  ^.^:;

I hate specitags, they're obnoxious eyesore wastes of space.

Just thought I'd throw that into the whirlpool as we beat the dead horse again.
