I think it might be a nice idea to redesign the whole system of digo's and (in the future) attachments. Let us players submit art like that for the digomarket while you the company will get a small share of the profit made in such a way. I did read through the goals list and I've noticed that there is a plan for it:

Also we'll add a way for artists to submit attachments for us to sell in the market. That means way more options for you to dress up your characters, and artists gain another way to earn some Golden DragonScales!

However my idea is to broaden this idea to where it'll become THE main part of the whole digomarket. Look at Valve and their systems. They seem to add items based on what users submit and make profit off of every sold item.

It'd work something like this: (Can be changed upon what would be best for the company)

1. User submits item
2. DEP Reviews item
3. Items get chosen and accepted by DEP.
4. User himself has to agree their item being accepted.
5. User agrees and DEP puts it online, with a price defined by both parties.

DEP will take a main role at accepting or declining items, thus letting them spending less time making digo's. By taking a small fee for every sold item, DEP will generate profit without having to invest a lot of money in making art, letting DEP work on more features for the client itself.

This might've been your plan all along but I think making it a bit more community-controlled might help making this more interesting for both players and DEP itself. It is already quite community-driven, so I don't think this is a bad move.

There have been a number of times this has been suggested and are listed in the Frequently Suggested Avatars thread.

The officially released avatars all follow specific design principles, because they are part of the "look and feel" of Furcadia. Artists working on official avatars often spend quite a bit of time on tweaking and changing their avatars, and there are reviews and revisions. While we may at some point have a very limited, very exclusive opportunity for getting a custom avatar, there are no plans to make this a product that's sold on Digo Market. Sorry!

Long term, we do want to work out when technology will make this feasible without it being a significant source of lag. Computers and internet connections get faster each year, eventually it'll be practical. At that point we can try to work out the design and social issues to see what we could do about fitting it into the game. I wouldn't want to jump the gun too early though, say at a time when 70% of our players have computers and internet connections that could handle it fine, but 30% of our players would suddenly find Furcadia running as slow as molasses.

If we get patchable attachments implemented, that might provide an intermediate stage, where you could have some smaller amount of avatar customization - but with less lag, and a lot less art to draw to make something. We'll see how things go - as always, it's impossible to forecast in advance when any particular new feature will get done.

Even though those idea's share similarities, this idea is different as this is about a system meant to help DEP by letting artists submit art in the form of avatars ( which has to abide by several rules ) to be used in the digo market. Artists would do this to get money out of it, while DEP will be able to profit from it.

DEP has the last word, so if something doesn't fit furcadia, it won't be accepted.

The idea is already listed in the 'goals' section of the second dreaming, this is only an extention of the original idea to see if this has been thought out.


It's a win/win situation and the digo's that get accepted won''t be free. Artists only get a small fee on it and perhaps get their own digo for free.
