No this isn't a suggestion hence why I didn't put it under suggestions
Explain to me why there is no lizard default or Bird default? And don't give me the reason Emmie did about 'Birds aren't sentient' Why I ask this? Did you see the bugge avatar? HOW DOES A BUGGE GET PRIORITY OVER LIZARD? OR A BIRD? Not knocking the new lizard avatar down but I was hoping for a default Lizard and Bird. And I don't want to hear about how its against Lore for Birds or Lizards; humans are against Lore. Most flerians are against lore to some extent; heck the flox is against lore according to some mods. I don't want to hear it. I don't want the same excuses when clearly they are shallow, not well thought out and ultimately I can sit here and think of how stupid the reasons are when peeps keep pumping out other avatars... Not to mention the fact that a Bugge to me is food. Granted its a cool avatar, it has its uses. This isn't me saying 'the artist suck' this is me asking what made DEP think bugge needed a default but not the others [lets add monkey to the list as well] |

I'll admit I was a little confused as to why DEP released a lizard anthro as a digo instead of a default...I will make a wild guess and say they're offering a presale to anyone who really wants it and will release it as a free default later, but that would be unfair to the people who bought it in the first place...
I'm not too upset myself since I'd never use it, but I can understand the frustration of someone who has a reptilian character and has been waiting for a default avatar to be released. :< |

I have a character that a lizard digo /would/ work as a great normal avatar, but of course, there should be a free one as well.

1.) Birds pooped on the statuesque Gargoyles; the Gargoyles complained, formed an Anti-Pooping union and are now holding legal discussion with the Avians.
2.) Lizards took up all the warm sun-lit spots; the Cattens complained, formed a 'We Were There First' union and are now holding legal discussion with the Lizards. There are two perfectly valid, lore-friendly reasons. (Side note: I would like to see #1 become a reality, as I am sick of statuesque Gargoyles barfing everywhere and me not being able to enact some manner of vengeance.) On a serious note: Why are Humans, Flerians and the Floxen being compared to free default avatars when each of them is a paid-for vanity item? |

Aren't humans on the shortlist for free default?
If we're going by the "which animals are sentient" logic, then almost all animals with a ganglia or higher would be listed under sentient. Sentience is only the ability to feel, perceive, or experience subjectivity which is pretty much everything, including birds, lobsters, fish, and lancelets. If we're going by SAPIENCE ("the ability of an organism or entity to act with appropriate judgement") or INTELLIGENCE ("capacity for logic, abstract thought, understanding, self-awareness, communication, learning, emotional knowledge, memory, planning, and problem solving") then birds would fit better than almost all animals, excluding obvious exceptions (primates). The mirror test is used to test the self-awareness of an animal. Basically, a red dot is placed on the forehead of the animal and the animal must try and remove it. Animals that pass the mirror test will recognize that their reflection is themselves and successfully remove it. The only animals to have passed this test are the great apes (humans even fail the test up until about 18 months of age), bottlenose dolphins, killer whales, elephants, and EUROPEAN MAGPIES. A FRICKIN' BIRD. NO DOG, CAT, RAT, COW, HORSE, WEASEL, RABBIT, SQUIRREL, BEAR, OR ROACH HAS PASSED THIS TEST! I'm done. And irate. I hate you all. |

Lol Xxys- you're funny!
on a serious note the cattens have no claim since lizards where around first. Although Lore states everybody came from the great dragon, scientifically lizards were first [heck a dragon is like a huge lizard... almost.... :3 ] And that is true humans are on the list to being a default... again I'd love to see lizards or avains and nobody has touched the bugge issue yet? Whaat? anywho and why I compared defaults which yes are free to avatars that are not? Because it takes time to make all avatars- I know this. But really? How hard is it to make a free avatar? It just takes up one avatar space- heck ya'll do that with freebies every month, many of them aren't lore friendly either. Basically this is me saying there is no excuse as to why there isn't already a primate option or an avian option or a lizard option. And people will always buy pixels in this game, so you can't tell me its cuz people will pay less for paid for avatars when that's not the case: I buy lifers because I think they fit my characters. It makes for a better experience when people can imagine "hey what I look like is the digo I"m using" and it just helps cuz I don't have to post in RP some wall of text of what I look like that people with defaults have to do XD [which is why I can hardly wait for attachments- being Silver Sponsor's gunna rock! ^^] |

I would love to see a reptilian or avian default, but at least there will be an option now for people who really want to appear as a reptile. Maybe we will see some more default options when the attachments update is released, and it won't require so much work/avatar space to be compatible with wings.
No this isn't a suggestion hence why I didn't put it under suggestions Any discussion of features that Furcadia should or shouldn't have belongs on the Suggestion board. (I did, however, leave a link on the old board.) It makes it easier for people to find threads if they are where you expect them to be. |

Just thought I'd toss in that that is not the only brid to pass the test. Homing Pigeons also passed the "dot test" and, muhc like corvids, they've shown a propencity to manipulate their environment in order to achieve a certina goal. For example, having one pigeon stand on a drinking fountain trigger while another takes a bath in the water. Also, moving a small block into position in order to augment its height so that it could reach and enrichment object. Homing Pigeons also have the unique ability to "home" to their specific nesting spot (not a general area, the site of their nest) from distances of well over 300 miles (this is different from traditional migrating and other migratory birds migrate to a general area0. homing pigeons are tehorized to be able to home from virtually anywhere. On a separate note, homers can recognize every letter in the english alphabet, have great memories (they remember exactly who you are and what you have done to them even if you change your clothes, obscure your face, or wear perfume) and hahve bene known to enact "revenge" on those mistreat them. They can also conceptualize math (IE: 3 is greater than 2, 5 is greater than 2 and 3, 20 is greater than 2 3 and 5 etc) and can sort groupings of objects based the number of objects in the group regarldess of color shape or size. They can also be taught to perform tasks on touch sreens, including dragging virtual objects to correct destinations. As for the other animals; pigeons hold the highest number of Dickin Medals (the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross " the highest military decoration awarded for valour "in the face of the enemy"") at 32 recipeints, the runner up is the dog at 30 and this is largely because pigeons have not been used in the military since the end of WWII. 14 of the dog recipents, almost half, obtained their medals AFTER the retirement of the pigeon. Also birds are the evolution of dinosaurs so.... yeah... *cough* |

I heard crows enacted revenge on people who've done them wrong- but then again who's to say that talent isn't limited to a specific Bird.
And I did look up dinosaurs and birds relations- it is a very intriguing read. It's even theorized that not only dinosaurs were covered in feathers [perhaps like birds! Many beautiful feather colors] but were also warm blooded like birds. Course I prefer birds because I'd hate to see some wicked dinosaur with crazy teeth screeching around >.< http://www.cracked.com/article_19042_6-ter...-you-think.html oh more about crows, cuz they're awesome in a creepy way. I mean there's way more about them ^^ |

and why I compared defaults which yes are free to avatars that are not? Because it takes time to make all avatars- I know this. If you own your own business and need to pay monthly upkeep, do you spend your month working on something free or do you work on something to directly generate revenue while making future plans to further expand on free resources ot your consumers? But really? How hard is it to make a free avatar? It just takes up one avatar space- There is a lot more involved in making and adding in a new avatar than that. Despite popular belief: it is not a page where you upload a new image file and click the big, green "GO!" button. It's also not my place to go into more detail. Sorry. ![]() heck ya'll do that with freebies every month, many of them aren't lore friendly either. Basically this is me saying there is no excuse as to why there isn't already a primate option or an avian option or a lizard option. There are several valid reasons why there are no default primate, avian or lizard avatars. Reasons were unveiled to Kickstarter backers over the past year in newsletters and open discussion during specific G&G Days and Twitch stream Q&A's. One of those reasons being that, before any new default avatars are added, all the current default avatars need a facelift. Concerning Freebies: Freebies may be free, but they are only available for a single month. If you want to own a Freebie outright, you need to purchase one from the Digo Market. Think of 'Freebies' as one of those supermarket sampler stalls: you get to taste something nce, but if you want more: you need to make a purchase. And people will always buy pixels in this game, so you can't tell me its cuz people will pay less for paid for avatars when that's not the case. It is part of the case, actually. If you want currently available evidence of this, one need look no farther than the Digo Market sub-forum or Furcadia Alt Market, and peruse the discounted sales posted by players. I'm all for a new default avatar or two, because something new is always nice. But what we want isn't always what we need. Coincidentally, what we need is also free for everyone, but will do more for Furcadia than one or two default avatars. |
