This year's event will take place all day on Saturday, August 25th 2018. Please join us in furc://livinglibrary for this unique opportunity to learn; to challenge oppression, stereotypes, and prejudice in a safe, respectful atmosphere; and to form friendships based on mutual respect and acceptance!

What is the Living Library?
The Living Library is an educational opportunity with an anti-oppression framework. Through open, honest, and respectful dialogue, Living Library aims to challenge all forms of oppression and hate (including, but not limited to: racism, sexism, ableism, heterosexism, cissexism, classism, and religious intolerance). Each year at the Living Library, Furcadians come together to learn about each others' lives and unique experiences. Players volunteer to share their stories and experiences with discrimination, stereotypes, societal attitudes, misconceptions, and more.
Visitors are encouraged to talk to these volunteers, listen to their stories, and ask questions they might otherwise be afraid to ask. We hope that this dialogue will lead to a better understanding of others and, in turn, greater respect for them. We believe that one of the best ways to learn is through open communication!
CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS!
Yes, the Living Library is currently looking for volunteers to share their experiences for this year's event. If you're interested in challenging stereotypes and prejudice, talking about your experiences with oppression in a safe environment, and forming relationships founded on mutual respect through open, honest dialogue, then we'd love to hear from you! This is meant to be a positive experience and a chance to dispel myths and stereotypes for marginalized people.
If you are interested in participating as a volunteer or if you have any questions, please whisper any of our lovely 'librarians'. You're welcome to Pounce the lot of us and contact whoever's schedule meshes best with your own.

Kono - Different Turret
We will ask you a few questions first because we like to take the opportunity to get to know the wonderful people who volunteer.
If you are interested please make sure that you can be available at some point on August 25th. You are not required to spend the entire day or any specific amount of time at the event; any amount of time you can spare throughout the day will be greatly appreciated. As a volunteer, you will be given your own private room to speak with players in. We also have a Furcadia group for volunteers.
What can you learn about?
Here is a list of the topics our volunteers will be available to talk about on August 25th:

You can talk to as many volunteers as you'd like. However, we ask that you only attend the event for positive reasons. It is important that you remain respectful at all times. This event is about fostering understanding, not spreading hate. The top priority of the Living Library organizers is the safety and comfort of our volunteers. Keep in mind that those who are volunteering are providing us with a valuable service by offering their time and knowledge to help us understand, learn, and grow. As the saying goes, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
